Taking a Stand for Jesus

Part 2 (Part 1 – Being Faithful to Jesus)

To love God with all of one’s being is not only an expectation by God for all of mankind, but it is His command for Christians. That Christians must sacrifice much for Jesus is a given – “…whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:33). Part of this sacrifice is taking a firm and unwavering stand for Jesus. “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters” (Luke 11:23).

The societal climate of political correctness has at its core, postmodernism – you can’t criticize me in any way. Those who have influence upon those with legislative authority demand new laws to support their view against any criticism – hate crimes. Ironically, at the heart of political correctness is an intolerable bias, which demands all opposition be severely criticized if not eradicated. That is the basis for hate crimes. Even though a defendant does not admit his intention, then someone (judge / jury) will determine guilt based on the hate (thought) crime law. If it is ambiguous then it is whatever the judge thinks in his own mind what constitutes hate and whether the person hated. The clandestine intention is to eradicate certain things in society via the force of jurisprudence. Yet God alone knows one’s heart (1 Kings 8:39). In fact God and His word is the problem for political correctness, thus He and His word must be eliminated from the public stage. That of course runs contrary to God’s basic order for the Christian – to love Him with all of one’s being (Mark 12:30).

God demands Christians take a stand for Him and His ways. PC would rather, and demands, we shut up. However, PC has slyly wormed its way into the biblical church world. In an attempt to give credence to the acceptability of homosexuality as normal (read that not sinful), churches are scrambling to find a way to avoid being charged, gasp, with hate. Go along to get along!

For example: Occasionally it is said, “Homosexuals are not abominable.” It is usually stated in the context of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (S & G). This deceptive argument is those four cities (Deuteronomy 29:23) were destroyed because of their inhospitable character. This is an absurd denial or avoidance of the text. The townsmen wanted to rape Lot’s guests. Period! Lot even referred to it as wicked behavior (Genesis 18:4-7). In an illustration of judgment day, Jude stated the reason for their destruction – they “having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire” (Jude 1:7) – the reason for their destruction was not inhospitality.

The PC society will “… think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you” (1 Peter 4:4). Yes and even make accusations of hate crimes because of defending one’s faith in God and Jesus Christ as their risen Savior. But God commands Christians to “…not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment” (John 7:24). And God’s standard of righteousness is the Bible (Psalm 119:7, 40, 62, 138, 144, 172). That standard will be used in the day of judgment (John 12:48-49). To love God one must take a stand for His righteousness. Such takes conviction and courage.
