This series was prompted by Israel’s King David’s divinely recorded question, “If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3), and recognizing how our nation has declined from a God-fearing nation to one drowning in depravity. For over 100 years Secular Humanism has progressively become the American de facto religion.
Deniers foist “Not so!” However, for several decades polls reveal increasing unbelief in God, the Sovereign Creator, and His authority set before us – the Bible. Most obvious is the lack of reverence for marriage between one man and one woman for life. Sexual promiscuity has increased dramatically for 50 years; eg., a sample of national sewer stats: 70% say fornication OK; 50% say abortion OK; 70% say illegitimate births OK. Sample of sewer stats of “born again” (supposed believers in God): 51% say fornication OK; 54% illegitimate birth OK (Barna poll; 2018). Divorces have declined, but that is primarily because there are fewer marriages. The result is serial monogamy, going from one sexual partner to the next, without the legal record of marriage!
Although we like to think we are evolving into a higher and better state, we are the same ole wretched sinners practicing pagan Baalism, the orgiastic fertility religion. The difference today is that religion does not have the banner of visible idols but is simply the self-created licentious pleasure. No absolute unchangeable rules – virtues!
Ancient Judah had similar attitudes shortly before God destroyed them. The Jews believed as long as God’s temple stood they had His favor. The depth of their depravity is recorded – they had booths for homosexuality in the temple as worship to God (2 Kings 23:7). Jeremiah revealed that they went to the temple so they could leave to practice abominations – spit in God’s face (Jer 7:1-27; 2 Kg 23:1-20). He called this attitude & behavior “trust in lying words.” How easily humanity is deceived. In short, man’s rejection of God’s guidance is an utter failure, inviting God’s wrath.
Few recognize this is the erosion, yea, the destruction of a stable society. Again we ask What has been the impact on Christendom? How can we rebuild the solid foundation? We continue our review – next.
