Thoughts from Quarantine, Pt 40 – Midweek Review

Midweek Review

Number 40, that’s a big number.  I wouldn’t have thought the number would reach that high when we started out, but many aspects of this current COVID situation seem to have moved in to stay.  We all certainly need to be careful with our daily activities and especially when we assemble for worship and Bible Study, but we also need to remember that God is and has always been here to stay.  He’ll open doors, move obstacles, and generously provide, for He is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…(Ephesians 3:20).

It has been suggested that it might be helpful to provide a review during the week of what we studied the previous Sunday, so I’ll dedicate one of these articles weekly to that purpose.  It’s rather easy on me, as it will be like just preaching the same sermons over again.  On you, it may not be so pleasant having to go through a midweek re-run.  But if you are looking for a scape goat, you can blame Tom for planting the seed, and Tery for watering it and making it grow.  But I’ll have to say, it’s a good idea, and very biblical.  Just after telling of the importance of those Christian Graces, Peter says this in 2 Peter 1:12Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.  Three more times in that letter, Peter speaks of the importance of being reminded of the things we already know.

Do you trust God?  I mean really and truly, fully relying on Him to help, provide, furnish and supply what is spiritually and physically needed in your life?  Not only that, but do you trust Him to both KNOW and BRING ABOUT what is in the best spiritual interest of all His people?  There are several simple reasons why many don’t have that level of trust in the Heavenly Father:

  • Some have a hard time trusting what they cannot see, and don’t always understand. In other words, some people are stuck in the “I gotta see it to believe it” mode. That’s usually a selective attitude.
  • Some people seem to be tightly bound to human nature, and don’t want to trust a spiritual Heavenly Father. Aren’t we thankful that Abraham didn’t balk at the idea, when God challenged His faith by telling him to offer his son, Isaac in Genesis 22.  Though God didn’t allow him to follow through with that action, the demonstration of such great faith is a tremendous lesson for us.
  • Some don’t want to trust God because they can’t stand the idea of not being totally in control of their own lives. Make no mistake about it, God’s will must be supreme in our lives.

None of those reasons for not trusting God are good ones.  So, why should we trust God?

  • He is CONSCIOUS. Aware, alert, always on duty.  He knows us better than we know ourselves.
  • He is CONCERNED. Over and over He has promised and proven that He cares for us.
  • He is CONSISTENT. Quite unlike us, or any person we know, God is always faithful, reliable.
  • He is CAPABLE. God possess the skills and abilities to do anything that is needed, from start to finish.

Recall Job’s statement in Job 13:15Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.
