Teachers

By David Phillips

Vacation Bible School last week reminded many of us of the value of good teachers. If you were not here to be able to observe the great work going on among eager young minds, you really missed out. Our Bible Class program and special events such as Vacation Bible School are great tools through which the children associated with this church are able to gain better knowledge and understanding of God’s word. But those Bible Classes are only as good as the teachers who serve in them.

A Word About Teaching
Actually, there are three words which I think will fit in well here. The first is Responsibility. The most precious thing any of us possess is our soul, and a Bible Class teacher deals with young souls regularly. To intimately handle such precious articles on a regular basis is a task of great responsibility. I believe God appreciates us more when we accept great responsibility. Now, Duty. Duty grows out of privilege and to be a servant of God is one of the greatest privileges available. When we possess the ability to teach, the Kingdom of God is counting on us. Bible Class teaching is some of the strongest duty we will ever fulfill. The third word is Sharing. Bible Class teaching is an outlet for sharing our love with those who need our leadership. A reluctance to be a teacher calls our selflessness into question. We need to declare as our motto the words of Psalm 34:11 Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Truly, there is no greater joy than to see children being led in the truth.

A Word to Our Teachers
The word that needs to be said is, Thanks! It should come from the hearts of the mothers and daddies of the children you are teaching. It should come from the elders, in recognition of your dependable service. Some of our teachers go years without a break. It comes from God, as is stated in Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints. To our teachers and helpers who worked so hard with VBS, we offer this special word of recognition.

A Word to Those Who Could Be Teaching
Do it! Rise to the responsibility, answer the call of duty. Show your respect and appreciation for some who have labored so long without a break, and volunteer to help. Teach, help, support! Please get involved!
